The feedback that we often receive from our guests is that Scudder Hill House is “the best-kept secret in the Catskills.” In our own experience, we couldn’t find a room for a family of five during vacations, and when we did, we were disappointed more often than not in our accommodations. We would dream “what if we had a B&B?” Perhaps we dreamt it enough, that it became a reality.

We now love offering to our guests the accommodations we once wished we were able to find for ourselves. It gives us great pleasure to be able to welcome them as if they were a part of our family. We hope all our guests leave satisfied with fond memories and thoughts of returning again.

I felt I’d chosen the right B&B for this special birthday celebration, and then when I saw your home for the first time, in person, WOW, I knew I had. You’re creating the unique balance of warm B&B hospitality and private get-away. We enjoyed meeting and chatting with you both. We’ve already shared our experience with our friends. Scudder Hill House, the Public, Platttekill and Roxbury, they’re all undiscovered jewels as far as we’re concerned.

My family and I spent a wonderful vacation at the Scudder Hill House last year. We were very impressed with the accommodations, service, and location. Our hosts were both warm and helpful. It is not an easy task to find a house capable of housing 18 guests over Christmas, comfortably, but Scudder Hill House did the job. The rooms were spacious, the two kitchens were amazing and the flow of the property worked well for my family. We definitely plan to return there in the future.

Staying at the Scudder Hill House was like staying in the little log cabin I always wished I had. From the cozy fireplaces, to the delicious, home-cooked meals, to Rae and Bruce’s never ending hospitality, I felt like I was visiting family.

...Throughout the years my wife and I have stayed at many bed and breakfasts throughout Northern New York, preferring their charm to the impersonality of hotels. I would without a doubt rate Scudder Hill House as one of the most inviting and well-kept accommodations we have ever visited. Bruce and his wife Rae were welcoming, charming, and personable...We will definitely stay at Scudder Hill House again and highly recommend it to others.

Scudder Hill House common area

...The Scudder Hill House has become our home away from home in the Catskills...the perfect place for the entire family...within about ten minutes of Plattekill Mountain...and centrally located between Roxbury Village and Margeratville Village where there are plenty of things to do for [the kids].

We love the atmosphere that you have created...tastefully decorated and yet very comfortable and user friendly. Breakfasts in your dining room have become a family favorite...Bruce, you are always welcome in my home to cook up your delicious homemade scones and muffins. Even your coffee is exceptional...I like the way you set up the table with all kinds of breakfast goodies which are ready for us to enjoy at our own pace before we go out for the day. The mountain biking season is right around the corner. We look forward to seeing you and enjoying your Inn during the Spring, Summer, and Autumn months.

Rae and Bruce are the perfect B&B hosts! Looking out the old, wavy windows at a lush country landscape from the lovely apartment at the Scudder Hill House takes you back in time. Each room is positively darling, comfortable. I’m going to have to return to stay in each one. Group accommodations are excellent as well, and Bruce’s cooking is something to look forward to! The radiant heat in the floor keeps toes warm under original wide-planked flooring.

Our visit to the Scudder Hill House was warm, welcoming, and just like being at home. To please all the different ages of our group can be a challenge when we travel. Being at the Scudder Hill House, we had the comfort of a space just like our own home. Rae, Bruce and their son, Matthew, were very helpful and knowledgeable about Belleayre & Plattekill ski resorts and about the great family deals that are available. All of the rooms are cozy and inviting, my friends can’t wait to book their dates! With great affordable prices, the Scudder Hill House B&B is the place for family fun!

Thanks again Bruce, Rae, and Matthew, for making us feel at home in your home!
